Happy September! I trust that the school year has gotten off to a good start for you and your children. A new school year always holds so much promise as well as academic challenges and opportunities. Here at The Delany Center for Educational Enrichment things are abuzz each afternoon and on Saturday mornings as tutors and students work to master language arts, reading and math. It's always exciting to see the wheels turning in children's minds as they make "connections." For the past 45 years, the Center has provided tutoring for children who need remediation as well as those who seek academic challenges. Our certified tutors tailor teaching to meet each child's learning style and academic needs.
I'm proud to say we had another successful Summer Program at the Center. Nearly three dozen students along with their teachers were engaged in academics ranging from reading to science and activities including dance and sports. We captured much of the program in pictures. Check out our Summer 2017 tab to view pictures and more!
However, learning isn't always fun and games. Have you and your middle- or high-school age child ever wondered what it means when the teacher says, "Go study"? We can help! The Center is offering a FREE two-session How to Study Workshop on Saturday, October 7 & 14 at 11AM. We'll cover such topics as devising study strategies and preventing pre-test jitters. For details, click here.
As you have heard me say time and again, parents are their children's best teachers. This is the perfect time of year to engage your children in outdoor adventures that are both fun and educational. There is so much to do here in the Hudson Valley from leaf-peeping to pumpkin picking. Click here to find out more. Next to experiencing things first-hand, reading is a great way to learn about the world in which we live. If your child is a sports fan, a big highlight of the fall is always the World Series. There are many terrific books about baseball and some of its great legends including Jackie Robinson and Babe Ruth. Click here. And don't forget Halloween is coming up. We are so happy to announce that once again this year The Center will be partnering with our friends at Barnes & Noble to sponsor a Holiday-themed Book Fair on Saturday, December 9 from 1 -4 PM at Barnes & Noble at the City Center in White Plains (230 Main Street). Along with a visit from Santa, this free event will include holiday-themed storytelling, games and arts and crafts. More details will follow.
As you know, the overarching goal of The Center is to pique children's curiosity and provide them with the tools and confidence to explore, learn and grow throughout their lives. Each tutor is dedicated to helping your child become a lifelong learner.
Please feel free to share this newsletter with your family, friends and neighbors so that their children also can benefit from our services.
